Bev sent a sample of her DNA (from a cheek swab) to the National Geographic Genography Project, which analyzed her mitochondrial DNA. The sequence revealed that she belongs to Haplogroup T (subclade T2) through her maternal line. This group has a very wide distribution and is present as far east as the Indus Valley and as far south as the Arabian Peninsula. It is also common in eastern and northern Europe.
